Walmart's store credit card is now offered through OnePay, with Synchrony Bank as the issuer. There are two versions, and which one you get depends on your credit approval. This guide explains the difference in plain words, using only what OnePay and Walmart say on their own pages.

Not the official Walmart site. Walmart Savings Guide is an independent information website. It is not run by, affiliated with or endorsed by Walmart Inc., OnePay or Synchrony Bank. We do not take applications. For rates, fees and approval, always confirm on onepay.com or walmart.com.
Quick answer: The OnePay CashRewards Card has no annual fee and earns 5% back at Walmart with Walmart+ or 3% back at Walmart without it, plus 1.5% back everywhere else Mastercard is accepted. If you do not qualify, you may be offered the Walmart Spend Card, which only works at Walmart and has no standard rewards program.

How the rewards work

  • Rewards are paid as OnePay Points. You can redeem them for cash back into a OnePay deposit account, or as a statement credit.
  • The Walmart rate applies to purchases at U.S. Walmart locations and on Walmart.com, including groceries, gas, prescriptions and dining at Walmart.
  • OnePay also lists a welcome bonus and a limited-time higher rate for new accounts. These offers have end dates, so read the current terms on the official page before you apply.

How to apply

  1. Check if you pre-qualify. OnePay says seeing if you pre-qualify does not affect your credit score.
  2. Apply on Walmart.com, in the Walmart app, or at select Walmart stores.
  3. Read the card terms. Your purchase APR is set during the application and is based on the Prime Rate plus a fixed amount.
  4. Wait for the decision. You may be approved for the CashRewards Card or the Walmart Spend Card, or be declined.

Fees and good-to-know points

  • No annual fee on either card.
  • A late fee can apply if the minimum payment is not received by 11:59 PM ET on the due date. The amount is in your cardholder agreement.
  • You pay no interest if you pay the full statement balance by the due date each month.
  • No foreign transaction fee.
  • OnePay says this card is a new product and is not tied to any earlier Walmart credit card. If you hold an older card, ask its issuer about your account.

Smart ways to use it

  • Pair it with Walmart pickup orders so the Walmart rate applies to your grocery run.
  • Look through clearance and rollback items first, then pay with the card.
  • A card only saves money if you pay the balance on time. Interest can cost more than the rewards you earn.
