Walmart Coupon Policy: What Walmart Accepts, What It Does Not, and Price Match Rules

Can you use a coupon at Walmart, and does Walmart match prices? The answer depends on the type of coupon and where you shop. This guide sums up what Walmart says in its own public coupon policy and price match answer, in plain words.
Walmart coupon policy: what is accepted
| Coupon type | Accepted? |
|---|---|
| Paper manufacturer coupon with a scannable GS1 barcode | Yes |
| Print-at-home (internet) manufacturer coupon that scans | Yes, if clear and not altered |
| Dollars off and buy one get one free (BOGO) | Yes |
| Digital coupons shown on a phone | No |
| Expired coupons | No |
| Competitor or other retailer coupons | No |
| Double or triple coupons | No |

The main coupon rules
- One paper manufacturer coupon per item, for in-store purchases only.
- A limit of 4 identical coupons per household per day, unless the coupon says otherwise.
- There is no limit on how many different coupons you use in one transaction.
- The item must match the coupon description, such as brand, size, quantity and flavor.
- If a coupon is worth more than the item, there is no cash back and the extra value is not applied to other items.
- Coupons that are copied, altered, sold or transferred are void.
- Walmart does not accept coupons on gift cards or prepaid products.
BOGO coupons
Walmart accepts buy one get one free coupons, but not two BOGO coupons on two items to get both free. You need two valid items at the checkout, and one is charged at full price. Coupons for a percentage off the second item, such as 50% off, are not accepted as BOGO.
Returns when you used a coupon
The refund will not include the manufacturer coupon value, and coupons are not given back. Walmart can also decline the return of items bought with manufacturer coupons.
Does Walmart price match?
- In a Walmart U.S. store: Walmart says it will match the price of the identical item advertised on Walmart.com. Restrictions apply, and the store manager on duty has the final decision.
- On Walmart.com: Walmart says it does not price match competitors, items you bought earlier that later dropped in price, Marketplace or third-party seller prices, or items offered in stores or Neighborhood Markets.
